A daring cross-Channel swim for charity took an unexpected turn when a participant fell ill, highlighting the importance of preparedness and the expertise of those providing medical support.
The event, organized by Dementia Jersey, saw around 60 swimmers embark on a challenging journey, supported by a dedicated team of volunteers and boats. Initially, the plan was to transfer the swimmer to a larger vessel for comfort and shade. But as the crew continued to monitor his condition every 15 minutes, it became evident that his health was not improving. Chest pains and shortness of breath set in, and the decision was made to bring him ashore to Carteret, where further medical assistance was available.
