Something You Need every Summer Day: DIY After-the-Sun Spray

This summer, my family and I have been taking day trips to the beach.  You may ask, “Don’t you live in Austin, TX?! What beach can you go to for the day?”  Well,  My husband is spontaneous and loves to drive in a second somewhere fun.  My kids love the beach. So, on Father’s day this year, we started a new summer tradition.  My husband woke up and said, “I would love to go to the beach today!”.

I packed some great snacks right out of my kitchen, threw in the towels, a book to read and sunscreen. We drove 3 1/2 hours to Padre Island and played on the beach, ate dinner and drove back home.  It was one of the best things we have done as a family!

We are about to take our 3rd trip this summer and are loving it! This last trip I brought this After-the-Sun Spray with my own tweak to a recipe and it was amazing stuff! As soon as we were ready to head home, I sprayed this all over my kiddos and especially in any space we didn’t get enough sunscreen. oops!

This spray has essential oils in it that promote skin repair and work at the cellular level to support the body after a long day at the beach.  The aloe and coconut oil also work with the skin to produce protective and supportive properties after sun exposure during the day.

I will never leave home without it!  It takes only 5 minutes to make and smells amazing!

Note from Stewart Littles:

“I keep asking my mom to put more on my legs because this spray feels so good and smells really great!”

Stewart’s After-the-Sun Spray

1  16 oz Glass spray bottle

10 oz aloe vera juice or gel

4 oz Fractionated Coconut Oil (can use Jojoba Oil or Almond Oil)

10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil

10 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil

10 drops of Melaleuca (Tea Tree) Essential Oil

8 drops of Frankincense Essential Oil

Combine these ingredients in order as listed and shake well.  It is ready to spray and use on any skin after sun exposure! Enjoy!

****Be sure to keep out of eyes and only topically apply to the skin.  Peppermint can cause a “cold” feeling after applied to the skin but will fade after a few minutes.****
